LEADERSHIP HENDERSON COUNTY
For History Day, Leadership Henderson County started the day with Phillip Renfroe. Phillip shared his knowledge of days past during a guided tour of our downtown court square. Phillip is known in our community as a great historian. He has researched many buildings and has much knowledge of life in Henderson County, dated back to 1822.
The class then headed to Scotts Hill City Park to learn of Nathan B. Forrest’s First West Tennessee Raid and to help celebrate the dedication of a historical marker place in the Scotts Hill City Park as part of the Historical Civil War Trail.
After lunch, the class visited the Welcome Center at Parkers Crossroads. Representative Steve McDaniel, an active member of the Parker’s Crossroads Battlefield Association, took the class on a guided tour of the Battle of Parkers Crossroads. To learn more about the Battle of Parker’s Crossroads, schedules for reenactments, living history events, and other activities visit the Parker’s Crossroads Battlefield Association at www.parkerscrossroads.com
Later in the afternoon, the class headed to the Beech River Heritage Museum. Mr. Paul Williams lead the class with a video tour of the museum and then entertained with his memories as a young adult living in Lexington, TN. The class enjoyed hearing his exciting memories.
